Cardiovascular Health Gets a Boost from Vitamin C

Several studies have been conducted on the benefits of vitamin C for Cardiovascular health.  Since cardiovascular disease is often prefaced with diseases including atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes, it stands to reason that alleviating any or better yet, all of these issues will be better for the heart.

Let’s take a look at vitamin C in regards to some of these health issues.

Atherosclerosis is the plaque buildup of arterial walls.  Once the process begins, the arterial walls thicken with buildup, greatly reducing the elasticity of walls and of course closing up the pathway for blood flow.  Vitamin C is a wonderful antioxidant and more importantly in relation to atherosclerosis, it helps to regenerate white blood cells, which help to rebuild the health of artery walls.

A scientific study conducted on 40 patients suffering from the beginning stages of atherosclerosis consisted of the supplementation of 250 mg per day of vitamin C   over the course of six weeks.  At the end of the study, the patients were tested and the plaque buildup on artery walls had reduced by thirty-seven percent.  Vitamin C’s health promoting effects and ability to reduce oxidative damage can give a great boost to our health.  Additionally, when the arteries are healthy, then in turn the blood pressure will also be better regulated due to the increase of oxygen and blood flow.

Another study performed in 2005 was based on the impact of vitamin C on an age-associated heart valve inflammation disorder called “degenerative aortic stenosis”.  The study was based on 100 individuals suffering from mild to moderate symptoms.  Over a course of the research, the group was split whereas some were given placebos and the others were given 1000 mg of vitamin C per day.  Those taking the vitamin C showed significant reduction levels of inflammatory damage to the heart valve.  These findings concluded that vitamin C helps boost cardiovascular health in addition to other health issues.

Vitamin C comes in various forms and we believe that Liposomal Vitamin C with Glutathione is one of the best available on the market.  It comes in liquid form combined in organic sunflower oil and glutathione which more readily delivers it to needed areas of the body but the glutathione also gives the vitamin C an extra boost in fighting off free radicals.

While the flavor of it is not that great, you get your daily minimal allowance in a single teaspoon, so just chase it with a tasty juice and you’ll be on your way to giving your health a boost!

Liposomal C for Dogs

Did you know vitamin C is just as important for your dog as it is for you?  Dogs are often prone to hip dysplasia, skin problems, viral infections and even ruptured disks.  However, when given supplemental vitamin C, the dogs fair much better.

Author and Doctor Wendell Belfield conducted a study spanning over fifteen years that comprised of two thousand animals and concluded that while cats and dogs benefited from vitamin C, it made a notable difference in the health and longevity of dogs.

Just as it is a great antioxidant for humans, so it is for dogs.  With it’s natural ability to rid the body of free radicals, it supports that health of a dog’s teeth, limbs, bones and ligaments.  Dogs with limps who are given vitamin C have made great comebacks towards vitality and mobility.  Also, cats with repetitive urinary tract infections seem to show marked improvement when given a regular regimen of vitamin C.

The ideal way to give vitamin C to dogs is spreading it out over 3-4 doses within a day, this method helps maintain a healthy supply throughout the day.  If you’ve not given vitamin C to your dogs before, it is best to slowly increase the dosage to the desired amount over time.

General dosage amounts are dependent on weight, as with most things.  An overall rule is:

625 mg/day for 2-10 lbs.
1250mg/day for 11-25 lbs.
2500mg/day for 26-50 lbs.
3750mg/day for 51-100 lbs.
5000 mg/day for 100+

As with any supplement, it is advised to check with your veterinarian before starting a new regimen for your pets.

If you choose to give your pets’ vitamin C, it is common to see improvements in a short period of time.
